At Blue Brontide, making things well has always mattered to us.
We believe children’s toys and everyday pieces shouldn’t be made to be quickly used and replaced. They can be thoughtfully designed, carefully made and loved for years — gathering little marks, memories and stories along the way.
That’s why we’re so pleased to be part of Heritage Crafts and to have Blue Brontide included in its Maker Directory.
Heritage Crafts is the UK charity dedicated to celebrating, supporting and safeguarding traditional craft skills, helping to ensure that making skills and knowledge continue to be valued and passed on.

Made by hand in Yorkshire
Our own Blue Brontide collection is designed around a simple idea: buy less, buy better and make it last.
From our handmade wooden toys and children’s tableware to our heirloom flower presses, our pieces are made with care here in Yorkshire, using materials chosen for their quality and longevity.

We love that the making process remains visible in the finished piece. Wood has its own grain, variation and character, and handmade pieces carry small differences that make each one feel a little more individual.
For us, that is part of their charm.
Why British craftsmanship matters to us
There is something special about knowing where an object was made and the hands and skills involved in making it.
Choosing British-made products helps support independent makers, small businesses and skilled craftsmanship here in the UK. Making closer to home can also reduce the distance products need to travel before reaching their new families.
But for us, British craftsmanship is about more than geography.
It is about keeping making skills alive, valuing materials properly and creating objects with enough quality and character that people want to keep them.
That idea sits at the heart of Blue Brontide.
Handmade wooden toys made for keeps
Children’s toys are often treated as temporary things.
We prefer a different approach.
Our handmade wooden toys are designed to feel substantial, tactile and timeless — pieces that can survive years of imaginative play and still have plenty of life left for another child.
A wooden racing car becomes scratched from countless journeys across the kitchen floor. A breakfast board becomes part of a familiar morning routine. A flower press gradually fills with flowers collected on walks, holidays and afternoons in the garden.
Those signs of use aren’t flaws.
They’re part of the story.
Celebrating makers across Britain
We’re also proud to stock work from other independent makers alongside our own collection.
Our Made in Britain collection brings together handmade wooden toys, children’s tableware, flower presses and gifts created here in the UK, giving our customers an easy way to discover beautiful pieces made closer to home.
Being part of Heritage Crafts feels particularly meaningful because its work extends far beyond promoting individual makers. The charity works to support the continuation of craft skills themselves and helps shine a light on crafts and making traditions that deserve to be valued and protected.
It is a reminder that when we choose something made with skill, we aren’t simply buying an object. We are also helping create a future in which making things properly still has value.
A future for things made well
Blue Brontide began with the belief that children deserve beautiful, useful things that don’t have to become disposable.
That belief hasn’t changed.
We want to continue designing and making pieces that feel special when they’re first unwrapped — and perhaps even more special years later when they’re passed on.
We’re delighted to stand alongside so many talented craftspeople as part of Heritage Crafts, and proud to continue making our own small contribution to British craftsmanship from here in Yorkshire.
